Congrats and all that to Helen Mirren and Forest Whitaker... but, I've never really got the Oscars... It all just looks to me like people being rewarded for doing something that they have already got paid the combined salary of Wales for, wearing clothes etc. that even though they are pretty much the only people who could actually afford them (the others being footballers, other US sportsmen and some musicians) they get given FREE, patting each other on the back as if they had saved the world!
...Ok I'm just a grumpy old man, but it all seems a huge waste of time and money to me!
I think I prefer the reward that's waiting for me in heaven...

I grew up in L.A. I never understood them. My hat is off to the few actors who refuse to attend. To me, it is the ultimate expression of a community's self worship. It is an awards show by Hollywood, for Hollywood. Don't you think WE (as in ourselves) are the greatest golden idol we bow to?

I rarely watch stuff like that. It is outrageous the money these people get and the way they spend it. Professional sports is another example of people getting paid way too much for doing something not particularly useful.
