If you were at Greenbelt this/last year you should have seen Paul Hobbs' installation "Holy Ground". As you can see there are a number of pairs of shoes surrounding a "bush" sculpture... each pair has an accompanying story, the story belongs to the real owner of the shoes and tells of a time/place where they encountered God. Many of the stories are quite incredible and the places/times extremely unusual and/or challenging!
Running through the piece (excuse the unintentional pun... one of the pairs of shoes belongs to Haile Gebrselassie, the runner!) is the idea that Holy Ground is wherever we encounter God... Of course Moses in the Old Testament story met God in a burning bush in the desert! We are hosting the installation in Telford Shopping Centre on March 16th through to the 19th. I love the idea that Holy Ground could well be somewhere as "secular" as a shopping centre! Anyway, thanks to Paul Thaxter & CMS for funding the installation and if you would like to help "curate" it... volunteers are more than welcome! Even if you are not from Telford... board can be arranged ;-)
