Liminal spaces are the spaces in between, thresholds or transitions from one state or space to another. Also boundaries, beginnings, becomings, and similar forms of cultural transition.
In someways liminality could echo the old celtic idea of "thin places" and "the between times" places, space and moments where 'heaven' and 'earth' seem close, where one seems to be caught in a moment of transition/change. Perhaps this means that liminality means, not "having one foot in each camp" but living in the gap?
