God!

A completely different track from Paul Weller... even if you don't like his stuff give this a listen, it is very very different - its basically a  "poem" spoken by Aziz Ibraham set to a chilled beat with ethereal vocals from Hannah Andrews.

God from the album "22 Dreams" - iTunes

Incidentally the Album, which arrived on my doormat this morning has been getting rave reviews all over the place...

The Observer said "The trad rocker's ninth solo album embraces everything from Krautrock to jazz. Miraculously, it's brilliant"...

The Times said "It’s as if one of modern music’s great control freaks has decided to take his hand off the rudder and just let the music out. Imagine his excitement when the music that does come out is as fresh and creative as the stuff he wrote 30 years ago. Actually, you don’t have to imagine: the excitement is infectious."

Uncut said "This is not an album by the Modfather, or the high priest of dadrock. This is an album by the Paul Weller who has spent much of the last 30 years straying outside his comfort zone, and this is his White Album, a sprawling, epic and compelling song-cycle that channels a century of influences into one exhausting 21-track album."

The Guardian said "What is going on is a fairly dramatic rethink that suggests the maverick spirit behind the Style Council has once more been unleashed. No one gets their ears fondled - at least not literally - but 22 Dreams is eclectic, deeply strange and cheeringly unlike anything Weller has done before.Perhaps the horror of having David Cameron announce his love for the Jam's The Eton Rifles has alerted Weller to the possibility of being too conventional for your own good. Or perhaps, after boring everyone else with album after album of grimacing man-rock plod, Weller finally succeeded in boring himself. Whatever the reason, 22 Dreams is a triumph of the most unexpected kind."

Brendan and the Secret of Kells - trailer

An unnoficial trailer for the animated film I've blogged about a couple of times (first post)... seems likely to be released next year.

Img,Fr,200,011,001-Brendan

Tomm Moore, the man behind the film says "we still have quite a bit of compositing to do and its not really representative of what we would like to have in the trailer - there WILL be a longer one for public consumption later."  but as he links to it on his own Blog, "The Blog of Kells", it seems OK to put it here... It looks great to me and whilst just a snippet of what the trailer, never mind the film, will be... congratulations to Tomm and the team for a beautifully designed piece of work!

new-blog of the new-film of the new-monastics

.. ok it's not that new (Jan)... but it is a blog about a new movie called "The Ordinary Radicals"... directed by Jamie Moffett and exploring the rise of a radical "new" Christianity of community, of liberation, of engagement and of simplicity and of doing the small things of peace... the kind of Christianity that is talked about and lived by people like the Sines/Mustard Seed Associates and The Simple Way/Potter Street Community.

According to the info the film will feature contributions from the likes of "Becky Garrison, Shane Claiborne, Jim Wallis, Brian McLaren, Tony Campolo, Rob Bell, John Perkins, Brooke Sexton, Michael Heneise, St. Margret Mckenna, Logan Laturi, Zack Exley, Aaron Weiss and many more Ordinary Radicals."

What does it mean to be a Christian?

According to Pete Rollins in a fascinating (if mind melting) interview with Becky Garrison (in the Wittenburg Door)...

It means entering into a journey of becoming one. It does not mean accepting a world view but rather entering into a healing journey of life... Being a Christian means learning how to be the opening of life into the world.
I love that last sentence... it echoes some of our exploration of missio Dei and Shalom... Oh, Lord let me be an "opening of life into the world"

The lost message of Emerging

Very interesting and encouraging article in Publishers Weekly (ht Tony Jones) from Jana Riess... Riess is worried that "Emerging/Emergent" is becoming a tool of the publishing dollar... that "Emerging/Emergent" sells and because it sells it is becoming weakened... (I'd better not put quotes in... go and read the article!) There does seem to be an impetus to find new language, to lose the words "Emerging/Emergent"... because they are being deliberately misunderstood and misconstrued by some who wish to condemn people.  I don't really mind what stones others want to throw at me/us although the confusion between Emerging and Emergent does get a bit frustrating, but if it wasn't that it would be something else so it's inconsequential really... I don't like the way it has become jargon and so gets used out of context in a lazy way, which causes confusion over meaning... but perhaps this is the most powerful argument to keep finding new language that there is!
