It's sell out time at safespace!

Yes, we've decided to sell out even more than we had before!  We're launching a shop page on the main web-site... I have started to make more linocut prints and we want to make them available... There will be two series to begin with 1) Seasons of faith - images to mark the seasons of the Christian year and 2) Icons - images of saints etc.  The first one of which is Aidan Bright Flame (have a look at the image upside down)... they will be available in limited runs of 50 framed for £25 + p&p

And soon (when we've taken some photo's - in the next few days!) Lou will be showcasing her Jewellery - made from silver wire and recycled materials (inc. buttons) - under the name...

Nathan's Cross

Nathan (our just turned 5 year old) was drawing this morning, Lou was in the kitchen.  When she came into the living room she found him making a Cross using strips of paper he cut out and a red glitter pen...

I love the big sad expression... though Nat told me that it all ends up happy when Jesus came back to life :-)  I'm biased but I've not come across many Crucifixes better than this one!

Medium Religion - ZKM Karlsruhe

What looks to be a fascinating exhibit at ZKM - the media gallery in Karlsruhe... really wish I could see this, I've bene to ZKM a couple of times and it is almost worth the trip to Germany on it's own... but you can't visit Karlsruhe without meeting up for several Beers with the Guys and gals from Kubic.

Medium Religion

Today's religious movements operate predominantly with images that can be spread across the entire world in a flash by means of contemporary mass media. The electronic picture media video and television have become the chosen media for religious propaganda as they are capable of being produced and distributed especially fast. The "return of religions" that people are currently talking about does not necessarily mean that more people have become religious nowadays. Instead, religions have moved from the private sphere of personal belief out into the public sphere of visual communication. In this, religions function, for one, as machines for the repetition and mass medial distribution of mechanically produced images.

For another, the role model for this repetition is found in the repeatability of religious rituals, which is the foundation for the emergence of all subsequent medial reproduction technologies. The original media used by religions were scriptures and books, assigned the same task of distributing belief. Text served, additionally, to canonize belief. Without writing there is no church; without scrolls, no belief. Thus, right from the start, through the demand for repeatability embodied by the ritual, religion was not only bound to media, but was itself a medium: religion as medium complements media as religion.

Brendan and the secret of Kells

The animated feature I've been tracking the production of over the last 3 years is now out... for more info and some reviews visit the blog - http://theblogofkells.blogspot.com/  according to a report the film is already award winning!

Brendan And The Secret Of Kells was the big winner at this year's Cartoon Movie in Lyon, winning best European director and best producer...  Irish animator Tomm Moore was named best European director of the year for his feature debut Brendan And The Secret Of Kells which had had its world premiere in the Berlinale's Generation sidebar last month.  In addition, the film's producers Cartoon Saloon, Les Armateurs and Vivi Film were voted as best European producer of the year.
