As you will all no doubt be aware Dame Anita Roddick, founder of the BodyShop... Fair trade campaigner, entrepreneur who never let profit get in the way of principles, loud voice of justice... died yesterday of a brain haemorrhage, she had cirrhosis of the liver, caused by hepatitis C that she acquired during a blood transfusion 36 years ago when in hospital giving birth to her youngest daughter. She showed the business world that one could run a successful business and be thoroughly ethical flying in the face of Thacherism and big business... to say nothing of the way she challenged the "old boys network" of fat-cat chairmen! She made a huge difference and will be sadly missed.
She leaves a husband and two daughters.
A favourite BodyShop slogan... "If you think you're too small to have an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito!"
