Green My Apple!

Ilovemymac150X150 From Greenpeace's Green My Apple campaign...

We love Apple. Apple knows more about "clean" design than anybody, right? So why do Macs, iPods, iBooks and the rest of their product range contain hazardous substances that other companies have agreed to abandon? A cutting edge company shouldn't be cutting lives short by exposing children in China and India to dangerous chemicals. That's why we Apple fans need to demand a new, cool product: a greener Apple.

Interesting that you mention this! I love my PowerBook to death...but then again, I'm a big fan of breathing and drinking clean water, too.

What to do in the meantime? Upgrade instead of buying new, and find new uses for stuff that's too old -- because "toxic waste can't be recycled." Just the other day, I turned an old Toshiba 486 notebook into a digital picture frame using a shadow box and some mat board.

Of course, this isn't a permanent solution. William McDonough wrote a great book called "Cradle to Cradle" about harmonizing technology and the environment through a firm commitment to zero waste. Might be worth a read.

Thanx for sharing this. i had no idea. what are we to do? Apple ought to change, especially ince they are part of Bono's red one campaign to help fight AIDS in Africa.

Have a look at the .mAct page on the Greenpeace site for ideas/action
