Dreams Meditation

Tonights meditation :-

Stilling prayer – CD “Smooth” Trey Bushell
Great Mysterious One,
You have been always and before You nothing has been.
There is nothing to pray to but You.
The star nations all over the universe are Yours,
And Yours are the grasses of the earth.
Day in and day out You are the life of things.
You are older than all need,
Older than all pain and prayer.
Sweeten my heart and fill me with light,
And give me the strength to understand and the eyes to see.
Help me, for without You I am nothing.

Intro – the theme of tonight’s meditation is Dreams and Dreaming…

Jacobs Ladder God says, "I will pour out my Spirit on every kind of people:  Your sons will prophesy, also your daughters; Your young men will see visions, your old men dream dreams. Acts 2:17

Together…

Disturb us, Lord, when We are too well pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true
Because we have dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely
Because we sailed too close to the shore.

Disturb us, Lord, when
With the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst
For the waters of life;
Having fallen in love with life,
We have ceased to dream of eternity
And in our efforts to build a new earth,
We have allowed our vision
Of the new Heaven to dim.

Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wider seas
Where storms will show your mastery;
Where losing sight of land,
We shall find the stars.
We ask You to push back
The horizons of our hopes;
And to push into the future
In strength, courage, hope, and love.

attributed to Sir Francis Drake -1577

Holy Day-dreaming – Ignatius – St. Teresa of Avila
Led meditation based on “Holy Desires” Anthony De Mello – Sadhana, A Way to God.

Draw, paint, write your holy dreams

In the depth of your hopes and desires
lies your silent knowledge of the beyond;
And like the seeds dreaming beneath the snow
your heart dreams of spring.
Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.

Kahlil Gibran

Do you think you can mess with the dreams of the poor?
You can't, for God makes their dreams come true. Psalm 14:6

Since the beginning of time you have spoken to your children in and through their dreams, you have stirred unreasonable hopes, you have given them glimpses of heaven, you have spoken unfathomable wisdom … we want to dream like Samuel, like Jacob, like Joseph, like Peter, like John… we want to enter the realm of impossibility and grasp it, we want to be lifted out of the limits our worldly ambition, we want to dream of divine re-creation and play our part in the coming of heaven on earth…

Wish I was there - sounds great. You've DJ'ed some rich material. I particularly appreciated the last stanza from the "Drake" prayer / poem:

"Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly,
To venture on wider seas
Where storms will show your mastery;
Where losing sight of land,
We shall find the stars.
We ask You to push back
The horizons of our hopes;
And to push into the future
In strength, courage, hope, and love."

Thanks Mark, for the example you provide of venturing on wider seas and losing sight of land...
